Van Cliburn bronze medalist Daniel Hsu will perform Tuesday, Nov. 15, as part of the Tuesday Musical Club’s Artist Series. Hsu made his recital debut at the age of 9 and by age 10 was studying at the Curtis Institute of Music. He was named the 2016 Gilmore Young Artist and was a medalist at the renowned Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, which takes place in Fort Worth. He has since performed around the world, including in Tokyo, Alaska, Florida and Texas. Reserve a ticket here. Students can attend for free with a valid ID. Learn more about artist Alfredo Ramos Martinez’s contributions to the visual history of La Malinche during a special lecture being hosted in conjunction with the San Antonio Museum of Art’s Traitor, Survivor, Icon: The Legacy of La Malinche, on display through Jan. 8. Led by Teresa Eckmann, Ph.D., associate professor of modern and contemporary Latin American art history at UTSA, the talk will discuss Martinez’s impact on La Malinche’s image. A Mexico native, Martinez moved to California later in life, where his art became well-known among Hollywood elites. Tickets for the in-person program are $5. Troy Andrews, known as Trombone Shorty, was performing at jazz festivals while still a kid and by his teenage years was on stage with Lenny Kravitz. Since then, he’s released four albums and worked with everyone from Bruno Mars and Ringo Starr to Zac Brown and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
