Already looking for a fall getaway? One of Mexico’s most anticipated new luxury resorts, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, is now accepting reservations ahead of its opening later this year. The luxury property is certainly something to behold as it’s nestled on a private peninsula with 3,000 acres of lush jungle and overlooks a six-mile (9.6 km) stretch of unspoiled Pacific coastline. Located between the towns of La Manzanilla and Barra de Navidad in the state of Jalisco, the secluded resort is an ode to Mexico’s culture, rich heritage, and stunning nature.
“In Tamarindo, we are creating a new resort experience that is deeply connected both physically and spiritually with its surroundings,” Vince Parrotta, Four Seasons president, hotel operations, Americas West, said in a statement released to Travel + Leisure. “Working closely with our visionary owner partners and myriad local and regional designers and artisans, we are offering something entirely new. To put it simply, if you think you know Mexico, you haven’t been to Tamarindo.”
Conceived by Victor Legorreta and Mauricio Rocha, two renowned Mexican architects who partnered under the name of LegoRocha for this project, the property blends traditional Mexican design with the sophisticated aesthetics the Four Seasons is known for. Cactus-covered stone walls and magueys welcome guests as they enter the lush property before arriving in its shaded lobby, which lacks traditional concierge and reception desks to invoke “an arrival in a comfortably furnished grand home,” per the released statement.
All 157 accommodations have uninterrupted ocean views, and some also feature private pools. Lead interior designers Uribe Krayer and Estudio Esterlina incorporated elements of pre-Hispanic culture and contemporary Mexican aesthetics to create an authentic sense of place in the spacious guest rooms. Wood-beam ceilings, vibrant alebrijes or traditional folk-art sculptures, and locally made silver pieces complement the interiors.
Even the smallest items, such as candles and tableware, were handcrafted by local artisans so guests can feel “connected to Mexico’s rich heritage and modern lifestyle at every turn.”
Since the property sits in a private nature reserve (only 2% of the area is developed), protecting its wildlife and preserving the jungle is essential. That’s why the resort will have a Discovery Center with a dedicated team of biologists and conservationists who will educate guests about the area’s biodiversity. The property is also home to a 35-acre working farm that will supply its restaurants with the freshest produce, meat, and eggs.
“And we are particularly excited at the progress of more than 8,500 agave azul plants we are cultivating here at the resort with the blessing of Mexico’s Tequila Regulatory Council,” Four Seasons culinary director Nicolás Piatti told T+L.
Speaking of food and drink, the Four Seasons Tamarindo will welcome guests with four food-and-beverage spots, including Coyul, a modern Mexican restaurant; Sal, serving the freshest seafood and artisanal cocktails; and Nacho, a casual poolside taqueria. The fourth eatery, Nueve, will be next to the resort’s 18-hole, par 72 El Tamarindo course.
A tranquil spa will also highlight local culture and ancient Mexican healing traditions through spiritual rituals and medicinal herbs, among other offerings. Three pools, a gym, and three beaches round out the exquisite amenities of the property.
