La Riviera Mexican Grill has announced its temporary closure.
After four years in business, La Riviera Mexican Grill has closed its doors for the foreseeable future in Manistee.
MANISTEE — After four years in business, La Riviera Mexican Grill has closed in Manistee, at least for the time being.
The popular Mexican restaurant announced that it would be closed until further notice on a Facebook post Sunday.
“We want to thank the community for supporting our business during this difficult time. It has been a struggle for us to keep our doors opened to the public and be consistent with our hours,” part of the Facebook post stated.
The restaurant opened in September 2018 at 215 Arthur St. The commercial property is owned by Ruby Vela, according to county records.
In 2021, former La Riviera manager Austin Vela spoke about some of the restaurant’s challenges during the pandemic.
“Right now with Covid, it’s really hard, so we really don’t know if we should put more stuff into the restaurant, when in two months or three months or in the long-run, maybe (it) will be closed,” Vela said. “We’re doing OK right now — we just need a little bit more support from our people.”
Vela told the News Advocate that current plans are for La Riviera to reopen at a later date.
La Riviera is known for its authentic Mexican cuisine, including burritos, tacos, fajitas and more.
The announcement was met with sadness and support from many of the restaurant’s customers.
“So sad, my wife and I love this spot. Always friendly service and amazing food. I really hope to see a post soon, saying (you’re) back at it,” stated one patron on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
